The Day from Hell

Yesterday was the day from Army hell. We woke up...fine. We walked over and had our gas masks checked out to make sure they worked....fine. The NCO's got together to decide how to set up out "Battle Rattle"...that's about when the wheels came off the wagon.

We got these new folks in recalled from IRR. IRR is the inactive Ready Reserve. When you enlist for any amount of time, the army always has you for eight years. if you do three years active, the army has you for five years of IRR when they can recall you to active duty. Anywaym these guys think that they are so far above us it's rediculous. So this Captain came in a week after the rest of us and just changed everything. he got rid of our squad leaders and put his guys in and changed us around. The thing that really pissed me off was that he seperated me and Williams, the only other female. Well, the other thing is that he did all of this without speaking to our platoon sergent or officers. So we were pretty pissed.

we had an MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) run to the mall and Walmart at 1300, after a barracks inspection by the company commander. So at 1300 he comes through and decides that he wants all of the furniture moved around (bunkbeds and wall lockers) in both famale bays before we can go. So we"re pissed, but do it. He comes back an hour later with the first Sergent and they say, nope, it has to go back. Then an hour later they want all the wall lockers moved around. So we finally get done at about 1530 and go to cq to turn in our weapons and go and we are told that the bus is deadlined and we can't use it. AAHH!!!! Hmmm, did no one check that while they were skrewing with us all afternoon? So they get the mechanic out and we have formation at 1600. So at that formation we are told we have a police call. (that's litter pick up) as a company until 1630. we finally could go at 1700. The time we were origionally suposed to get back. It was a very LONG and FRUSTRATING day!!!

We went to the mall and walmart. I got some fun stuff to brighten my "space" and that was fun. I was in a better mood by the end of the night, but I was in a really pissy mood most of the day. Thankfully it's over.

Camp Shelby

So, here is my bed and our barracks from the outside. I'll grab some more pics as I can, but the funny thing about Camp Shelby is that it is actually an old POW Camp, and boy does it look it. The barracks actually aren't bad, but i'll have to get some distance shots. I meant to bring my new address up with me and forgot again, so I'll put it in my next post.
Overall, It's not too bad here. We have a day room to use with computers and a TV and pool table. We have a gym close by (although without excercise bikes), the PX is small, but three times the size of the one at Camp Bullis. There is one particularly odd rule though...no sports of any kind. It's actually kind of a bummer. Anyway, I do have cell phone service here, so feel free to call.

The Shewee!!!

That's right...The Shewee. As in She Wee. This i\has gotto be the coolestthing the army has ever given me. It gives women what they've always wanted...the ability to pee standing up! This is so cool. I just had to share.
What was really funny was trying to explain this gizmo to the guys. It was like talking about tampons! Who knew they embarrassed so easy? Anyway...i'm excited about my new thingy. And yes, it does work.

Another Day

Hi all. Well, Jenny asked what RFI is: it stands for "Rapid Fielding Inititive" In English, it's field gear that we get. We got flame retardant uniforms, more hats, glasses, goggles, baclavas, first aid kits, leatherman's, and seatbelt cutter, boots, fleece tops and bottms, underarmor long underwear, sports bras, socks, undershirts, and various other stuff. That is almost all stuff that we just get to keep. We also went to CIF, which is the Central Issue Facility. This is durable stuff, mostly, that we have to give back. this is field gear, gortex jacket and pants, wet weather gaer, and my favorite, about fifty pounds of body armor. UG!

Taday we got up and had PT at five fifteen. Now that may sound early, but I went to bed at eight, so i was actually wide awake by four thirty. now we formed up, but there are a few of us that are done with our SRP, so i have nothing to do today. I have to pee in a cup at 10am, but that's all. I do have a fun entry to put in here later, but I'll leave you in suspense for now...:-)

SRP

Today I did SRP. If that term sound familiar it's because I've done it three times now. Today was a happy SRP day though. :-) No shots and No blood work. YEAH!!! Tomorrow morning we have RFI. That means they give us more stuff. It's just like Christmas...except we have to give it all back eventually. :-) Anyway, today was a good day. Hope ya'all had a good day too!

New Girl in Town

Hi Y'all. I have finally safely arrived at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. So far it's not bad. I have settled into the barracks and will send pics when i can. But for now, I'm finally here. :-)

So I am currently in the USO at teh houston Airport waiting for my flight. To your left you"ll see by "bedroom" last night, as it was. I am on my way to Camp Shelby after a few days in South Fort Hood. I was excited yesterday to get to take my DLAB. I did really well on it, so I'm excited about that. I scheduled my flight for the afternoon to accomodate that, but then my 4:50 flight didn't take off until 8pm and I missed my connection. So i got to sleep at the airport. Hardly a first, but still not ideal. I have got an unbelievable amount of crap with me, so when i found out about it when I was still at the airport by fort hood it just wasn't worth hauling it all back. I have 6 oversized checked bags. including one weapons case with two rifles. I was perfactly happy to let the airline deal with all that once it was handed over. I did talk them into letting me rescue my dvd player and pillow from bags, so that made a huge difference. So I fly into Gulfport in a few hours and then I think we actually start training on Monday. I am just excited to get it started and finished and get to Kuwait!
